Meiosis

Meiosis is a special type of cell division which generates haploid gametes from diploid parental cells. Crossover formation is essential for proper chromosome segregation of meiosis I. Errors from crossover formation can result in infertilities, miscarriages and birth defects such as Down syndrome. We are investigating how crossover formation is regulated in order to protect nondisjunction/missegregation of homologous chromosomes.
